Fiesta Island, located in San Diego, CA, is part of Mission Bay Park, the largest artificial aquatic park in the United States. This area features vast grass fields, sandy beaches, and mudflats, and also serves as a habitat for species such as red knot (Calidris canutus) and the osprey (Pandion haliaetus), which are classified as “Least Concern” by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

On September 10, members of ASEZ STAR, the Church of God Student Volunteer Group in San Diego County, CA, led an effort to preserve the marine ecosystem at Fiesta Island. About 130 participants, including ASEZ STAR members and San Diego Park and Recreation Department staff, carried out a cleanup activity as part of the “Green World Campaign.” California State Senate Brian Jones and Representative Scott Peters and other figures joined the site to encourage their efforts.

The members collected litter along the coastline, with the hope for a clean and healthy marine ecosystem. Supervisor Joel Anderson from San Diego County Board of Supervisors and California State Assemblymember Marie Waldron recognized their contributions for environmental protection by presenting certificates of recognition.
