Braille storybooks for the visually impaired require more than four times the cost and time to produce, compared with regular books, which results in a significantly low distribution rate of those books. According to the Korea Disability Association, braille books account for only 0.2% of the books published in 2021.

On January 15, members from the ASEZ STAR, the Church of God Student Volunteer Group, Jincheon Chapter donated three braille storybooks to Jincheon Public Library. This was their second donation, following one in 2022, aimed at helping visually impaired children access a wider variety of books.

The members spent the past year working diligently to create the braille books. The process required great focus and precision. Using a braille production kit, they carefully embossed braille onto transparent stickers and meticulously attached them to each page of the storybooks. Each syllable had to be pressed separately, and any mistakes meant starting the process over from the beginning. The members dedicated their breaks and after-school hours to complete the braille storybooks.

The members smiled brightly, saying, “We worked on these books bit by bit over the past year, and it’s so rewarding to see it finally come together. We hope the books bring dreams and hope to visually impaired children.”

In addition to creating braille books, ASEZ STAR members in Jincheon conduct a cleanup every Wednesday around their school. They also lead environmental initiatives such as using reusable cups and unplugging unused electronics, promoting eco-friendly practices within their school.
