“In recognition of your heartfelt dedication to promoting love and selflessness—demonstrated through your efforts to prevent school violence, beautify the school environment, and serve the local community— I hereby present this award, with the hope that you will continue to grow as a compassionate and responsible member of society, guided by sound values and a strong sense of community.”

The ASEZ STAR Volunteer Club of Imae High School in Seongnam was honored with the Youth Award at the 2024 KBS Social Contribution Awards. Throughout 2024, this award recognizes their outstanding volunteer work both inside and outside of school. The ASEZ STAR Club has actively carried out various initiatives, including the Green School Project, which promotes eco-friendly practices and addresses climate change within the school, and the “Honor Your Parents & Appreciation” Campaign held in May to express appreciation to parents and teachers.

Hosted by the KBS Sports College, the awards ceremony took place on December 26 at Simseok Hall, located on the 5th floor of the KBS Media Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Professor Bang Geuk-cheon, head of the judging committee and Chair of the Professors’ Council at the institute, delivered a congratulatory address, saying, “Each recipient has become a light of hope for our society during these challenging times.” Former Prime Minister Chung Un-chan and other prominent figures also extended their congratulations through celebratory messages.

After a festive opening program featuring chamber music and a cheerleading performance, the awards ceremony began. Recipients selected by the KBS Social Contribution Awards Committee were called to the stage one by one. In the newly introduced Youth category, the ASEZ STAR Club from Imae High School received the honor. A total of 13 awards were presented across diverse sectors—including media, environment, welfare, and culture—with notable honorees including Senior Prosecutor Jeong Sung-yoon of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office and Jeon Do-yoon, Secretary-General of the Korea Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities, all recognized for their positive social contributions.

Choi Seo-yeon, a student from Imae High School and member of ASEZ STAR in Seongnam, shared her gratitude upon receiving the award: “I’m truly honored and thankful to receive such a meaningful award as a student. With the mindset of “Lead by example and persevere,” I aspire to become someone who contributes to a cleaner and more beautiful society—both as a student and as a future adult.”

Professor Bang Geuk-cheon, Chair of the Professors’ Council, offered his congratulations to ASEZ STAR, saying, “In today’s world where issues like school violence persist, the selfless actions of students not only build their character but also resonate powerfully with their peers, creating a lasting positive influence.” He expressed his encouragement for their future journey.

Having faithfully engaged in volunteer efforts for neighbors and the global environment, ASEZ STAR members—both in Korea and abroad—have received numerous accolades, including the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award, a commendation from the Korean National Assembly, the Chairperson’s Award from the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council, recognition from a California State Assembly Member, and an award from the principal of Selva Central Technical High School in Peru. Members across the globe celebrated the news of Imae High School ASEZ STAR’s award, vowing to continue playing a vital and positive role in society through dedicated volunteer work in the coming year of 2025.
