On January 29, more than 480 members and parents from ASEZ STAR, the Church of God Student Volunteer Group, in the Incheon and Bucheon areas participated in character education for the youth, which was held at the Church of God in Cheongcheon, Incheon. This lecture, as part of the Winter Student Camp 2024<\/a> organized by the Church of God, was titled \u201cThe Relationship Between Words and Character\u201d and featured Professor Park Jeonghoon from the University of Seoul<\/a> as the speaker.<\/p>\n

According to the survey on youths\u2019 language usage in 2021, more than 70% of 1,100 youths responded that they use abbreviations, new words, and vulgar language. The overuse of such languages not only causes communication gaps between generations but also negatively affects relationships.<\/p>\n

Professor Park emphasized the importance of language with various research findings, saying, \u201cStudies show that continued use of harmful language by children can significantly impair cognitive abilities. Additionally, bad language stimulates the brain, potentially leading to violent and aggressive behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the lecture, he engaged with the students by asking and answering questions, tailoring his presentation to their level. The ASEZ STAR members listened attentively, nodding and taking notes throughout the lecture.<\/p>\n

Yoon Jae-min, 18, shared his thoughts, \u201cI realized that the words we use reflect our character. I\u2019ll strive to use kind and respectful language.\u201d Lee Ha-yeon, 46, who attended with her two children, expressed her appreciation, \u201cThis was an insightful lesson not only for the children but also for the parents. I was reminded that good words come from a good heart, and that through good words, we can build a good character. I\u2019ll keep this in mind while raising my children.\u201d<\/p>\n
